Tramps, Minivans, Cherries & Ferries

Our spontaneous last minute trip has come to a close.  We got to Kamloops on Wednesday evening to enjoy some adult time as kids were in bed.  On Thursday, Rocky’s brother had to work while the rest of us got to have fun jumping on the trampoline, playing at the playground, enjoying as much time outdoors as we could stand (it was hot and smoky) and just spending time together.

On Friday it was road trip time.  How many people, animals, bikes, luggage and camping gear can you pack into a minivan and camper trailer?  Turns out it is quite a lot!!  Rocky’s brother has a neighbour who has a cherry tree.  The tree was filled with ripe cherries and we were invited to pick as many as we wanted.  We had two bucketfuls for the trip.  We polished off one bucket on the road.  If you’ve heard my story about going for a walk in the Okanagan with nothing but a big bag of cherries, you’ll know where this story is heading.  Let’s just say a few people were definitely affected by our cherry extravaganza : )  Cherry buckets in hand, we hit the road to the lower mainland to catch the ferry to Nanaimo.  I was super pumped for the ferry ride.  It’s been awhile.  Can’t believe how ridiculously expensive it is these days, but it was nice to be on a boat in the ocean again.  Got to the campsite in time to wander around on foot and on bikes and have some dinner.  It was a pretty dark evening as there was a fire ban (I haven’t been camping for a long time, but I do know a camp fire is part of the whole camping experience).  We ended up staying up late, having a few drinks and telling stories while sitting around the citronella candles – fun, but not quite the same.

We ended off today by joining in on the “bike parade” as it was park day at the campsite and just spending some last few minutes by the ocean.  Flew out of Nanaimo and then hit the road for the super exciting stretch of highway between Calgary and Medicine Hat.  We’re already looking forward to our next spontaneous last minute trip.  Where should we go?

Rocking some tricks on the tramp
Playing at the park while bro works hard.
Why is this so freakin hard now?
Packed up and ready to go

Packed in, but I was quite comfortable : )
Delicious, but deadly
Ferry time
Camping fun
With no campfires it was quite dark, so a couple of girls attached glow sticks to themselves to make men. It was pretty funny.
The bike parade – basically taking 5 minutes to attach streamers to kids bikes, so they could ride in a hoard around the campground.
Good times, awesome peeps : )
