Switch-a-roo

We have finally arrived at our final destination which is a spot that was never on anyone in our group’s radar. We left MH on Friday morning knowing that the chance of getting on the direct flight to London was pretty slim. Originally, the plan B was to head to Winnipeg where seats were wide open for Saturday’s flight. Then we got to Calgary, and somehow the seats available in Winnipeg went from 24 to 3!  We had a last minute meeting of the minds and decided to start making our way to Toronto, but we had to make the change right there and then. B got on the phone (a few times … there were some “issues”) and we were off to TO, boarding passes arranged mere seconds before we were set to board, with a further flight to St. John’s on Saturday morning going further to London on Saturday night.

When we landed in TO just before midnight, we had some decisions to make. There was a flight out to London on Saturday night from TO & St. John’s with pretty much the same odds of getting to the UK. B didn’t want to stay in TO because he figured that with such a huge hub, there was plenty of time for that flight to fill up. SAS was concerned about getting stuck in St. John’s as our final destination (if we didn’t make that flight to London, that was where their buddy passes would end). Though St. John’s is nice, it was 7 degrees and rainy as we checked the weather … not exactly where we necessarily wanted to spend the next week. B handed SAS his phone and showed her how to look up flights and availability. “What about the Turks and Caicos?” she said after some searching. B got back on the phone, made some switches … and that is how we ended up in a British territory.

None of us really know much about the island, but most of us will have a week to learn more about it (B is the sucker that has to go back to work, so he’s leaving Wed.)  Thankfully, on Friday morning, I decided to chuck a pair of shorts, flip flops and a bathing suit into my pack along with my sweaters and long sleeves for London weather just in case we ended up somewhere slightly different.

I’m happy in hot, humid weather by the beach and ocean (my happy place), B’s just always happy, and so far our trip has led to some firsts for SAS and Nate-dog. It’s going to be a different vacation than we planned, but it will still be good. Hurray to standby adventures!!!

B spent a lot of time on the phone 😃

An open flight to PLS!

Nate-dog could spend the next 7 days on airplanes and he’d be happy!

I guess we got to a British territory!
Welcome to island life/transportation.

My happy place!

I was the only one “brave” enough to try the local conch.
