Planes, Trains, now Automobiles

We flew here and used the bus and subway, so we thought we might as well round out our transportation by renting a car for the day.  We had plans to be out later, and the thought of taking public transportation to get home just didn’t seem like it would be appealing at that time.  We love the public transport in most major cities, but there certainly are some disadvantages.
In the morning we picked up our Hyundai and hit the road to Malibu. It has smoking hot out, the sky was mostly clear and the sun was shining. It was a perfect day for some road trippin. We drove along the coast for a bit, headed into the hills and then did a bit of touring in the city. Stopped whenever we felt like it and just made plans along the way.
We stopped for lunch at Jollibee. This was another place that Anthony Bourdain hit in his LA episode. Every country around the world seems to have their own version of McDonalds. The Philippines native version of McDonalds is Jollibee. B-Rod went for the spam bites. I’m up for eating most anything when I’m travelling and on vacation, but for some reason I draw the line at spam. So, I opted for halo halo which was perfect for the hot day.  We must have been in a “Filipine town” type of area – FTown?/PTown? : ) as the whole block was Filipino stores with B-Rod being the only whitey in sight.
Late afternoon we headed to CBS studios as we had booked tickets to watch a sitcom taping. We had tried to get tickets to Jimmy Kimmel earlier in the week, but we weren’t successful. We almost went to The Price Is Right, but didn’t feel like wasting a whole day on a show we weren’t really interested in. So, we opted for tickets we could easily get and one that took up an evening instead of a whole day.
We ended up at a show that hasn’t even aired yet called “Young & Hungry” Unfortunately for you, cell phones and cameras were not permitted on the studio lot, so we have no pics.  We ended up being there for 5.5 hours.  Crazy since it’s a half hour show. It was kind of hard to force laughter for that long for scenes you’ve seen a few times already. It was fun though as there was a comedian/MC that provided entertainment between takes. At one point we were called up to the front as “the Canadians”. Basically it was an interview/banter back and forth. Unfortunately (for me) B-Rod is good at that kind of thing and can be entertaining, so we ended up at the front three times and ended with us singing the national anthem. At the end of the show we passed by these older women who sounded like they were possibly from New York. “Hey … you’re the Canadians. We loved you!!!”  Good times!
Today we just headed to another farmer’s market and did a bit of shopping before hopping on the bus to the airport. Our trip started with a “celebrity” sighting and also ends with one. Brian spotted Adam Beach (a Canadian native actor who has been in some Hollywood movies, but these days he’s on CBC’s Arctic Air) by our gate at the airport.
We’ve had a great time here and picture ourselves coming back. There are just too many things we didn’t have time to do and the city and people here have been great. Off to Calgary soon where we have heard there is a snowfall warning in effect.  NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!  Guess that will just give us incentive to think about our next adventure.
A group of CHiPs passed by on our drive.
100 F = 37.8 C
Stopped at the beach to check out the surfers

Spam bites … B-Rod says they’re good?

Can you tell a big part of Jollibee is fried chicken?
Halo Halo – basically a mishmash of anything you can think of (B-Rod was amused by the hunk of flan) with a couple scoops of ice cream, crushed ice and beans!
