My last week in Thailand has been spent in Chiang Mai. I know the old city centre fairly well after spending over a month here a couple years ago. I liked Chiang Mai then and I still like it, but it was definitely different this time around. For the first couple of days I was very unsettled and jittery. After spending the past little while living in the quiet, calm, natural environment of a temple in an area that sees few foreigners, it was more overwhelming than I was anticipating being in a busier area with a ton of tourists. One of the things I do like about Chiang Mai is that no matter how busy it seems in the main areas, you can always turn a corner and come across a quiet oasis or around a different corner to be amongst locals living their regular everyday lives. My massage course was different than last time as well and I ended up having a private class. Really good in some ways, but I missed the friends I made and the people I met the last time around. Different experiences, but both equally valuable. This week was very much about learning, going back to old hang outs, discovering new ones, a ton of walking around to explore further and the food!! So grateful for it all! I filled up mainly on street food, but I extra filled up even more on khao soi . . . a dish I’ve been dreaming about for the past two years!! It’s mostly by coincidence that I’ve ended up in Thailand every year for these last three years. But, I’m not complaining!!! This country and its people have given me so much! Thank you Thailand . . . . I know without a doubt I will be back. Until next time . . . . . ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ !!!
