Welcome to the Jungle

The last couple of days have been a lot of waiting around. Sometimes that’s just how travelling goes. Fortunately, the long trip up to Tikal has been worth it. We left Pana on Tues afternoon to go to Guatemala City to catch the night bus to Flores. Let’s just say that wasn’t a really restful sleep. We ended up at Tikal at the hottest part of the day, but not very many people were around, and let’s just say the site blew our minds!!  Since we were punishing ourselves with lack of sleep anyways, we signed up for the sunrise tour and were up and out by 3:45 AM. I’ll let you see the pics to see how that went.

We are currently sitting by a lake with some happy hour beverages as we wait to catch our 9PM bus back to Guatemala City. We should roll in by 6AM on Friday where I proceed to the airport for more waiting around and hoping to catch a flight out. Will I get one?  Who knows … oh the joys of standby travel.
Before we left Pana, I got to have one last meal at our breakfast ladies place.
Tacos before our bus ride. They look promising … sadly they were on the sketchy side.
The second course bananas were a lot better.
RobO trying to get some zzzz’s on the bus.
Before the site, the scale model sign informed us not to bring and slide on our tubes?
We felt like the only ones there!
Sitting on the “stoop” during the day. This is also where we would go for the sunrise.
This was what we came to for the sunrise.
And this was how it looked about when the sun came up.
How I was hoping it would look. Can’t complain though. I have been to Tikal!!!!
Eating my last bliss ball from San Marcos (those things were delicious) while enjoying the view.
“The walcamoles”  Thanks for everything peeps. I foresee an adventure again sometime in our future (B-Rod, you can come this time). Where will it be?
