The next series of posts will be a little different than usual. I’m writing these adventures after the fact . . . as our adventures come to a close and B-Rod transitions into going back to work. This is our space to share our explorations, but it is also something I use as our own documentation. Something that we can look back on and remember the places we went and the things we did. This summer will come to be known and remembered as the summer of B-Rod’s broken face! If you are out of the loop, B-Rod had a spill on his mountain bike which resulted in this blog being very different than it was supposed to be (we were set to head overseas two days before it happened)! So instead of boarding a plane, we waited a week until B-Rod could get into surgery to repair some broken bones in his face.
B-Rod’s adventure involved his first ride as a patient in an ambulance.

Six weeks off work during the summer may sound great . . . unless you’re uncomfortable, in pain and healing. His instructions for those six weeks were to take it easy and not do a lot. Once he felt well enough to be out and about, we made a plan to at least get out a bit and enjoy the weather . . . . summer in Canada tends to be a very short season. So, we’d stick close to home in the beginning and explore things in our area and head out on a road trip (to continue chillaxin’) for the last couple of weeks.
Our Alberta adventures included:
Chillin & reading by bodies of water which when you’re in Medicine Hat can include Echo Dale or River Valley Park in Redcliff. Want easier access to swimming? Echo Dale. Want a lot less people, more quiet and calm? River Valley Park!
Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park
If you have never been here, you must go! If you are from Alberta and you have never been here, you must go NOW!! This place is AMAZING. I first came here when I moved to Medicine Hat, and I don’t come here enough. I can’t stress how incredible this place is!
You think you’re coming to a regular flat prairie location.Until you’re greeted by this!
Writing-on-Stone is less than 2 hours away from Medicine Hat, so on the way home you might as well stop at the Etzikom Windmill Museum. It’s a bit cheesy, but fun to stop in at.
Our final Alberta adventure took us to Lethbridge. I tend to go to Calgary when I want to go to a bigger centre so haven’t spent a lot of time in this city. It’s quite a nice city and was smokin’ hot on the day we were there, so that helped with my enjoyment level 🙂 Apparently there is a really good trail system in Lethbridge, and we did go on a short little walk, but again our purpose was to chillax, so nothing too strenuous.
We ended our Lethbridge adventure by going to the Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden. Japan is on my list to spend more time in, so this was a nice place to visit with a Japanese feel. It also had a beautifully calming environment . . . the perfect place for chillaxin’
Thanks for the adventures AB! I guess you’re ah-ite!!
